    District Bijnor

District Bijnor is situated in the western part of Moradabad division. Before Moradabad division was created, it used to be a district of Meerut division. The district was created in the year 1817 during the British rule. Internationally renowned scientist Dr. Atmaram] has the privilege of being the birthplace of India’s first engineer Raja Jwala Prasad etc. There are various types of speculations and legends regarding the naming of the district.

    1. Veer Raja Ben of the northwestern region described in Mahabharata and Puranas had settled Bijnor city. On the basis of public opinion, Raja Ben did not collect any tax from the public, but used to run the expenditure of the state by getting a vision (fan / seed) made. Since the western non-forest area was forested and raw material (Bans, Khajur, Patera etc.) would have been easily available in sufficient quantity for the wings. Therefore, the word Bijnor must have been popular on the basis of his name or seed.
    2. Some scholars also have the concept that due to Aranya dominated area, this place must have been the hunting ground of the kings (Aranya is also known as Bijan in Sanskrit). The word Bijnor must have been derived from this Bijan.
    3. It is also estimated that the present words of Bijna Nagar (City of Wings) and Vijay Nagar must have been a corruption of Bijnor.
